Students advance to state and national History Day; board reviews curriculum presentations

The Moose Lake School Board heard a series of presentations and student achievements on April 20.
Board members were notified that several students advanced from regional competition to the state contest; Maya McDowell and Addi Metz will represent Moose Lake at National History Day in Washington, D.C., in June. Principal Jeremy Weaver and teacher Beckie Jackson highlighted the students’ accomplishments and thanked staff and supporters for their work.
Curriculum presentations were given earlier in the meeting: Renee Visser and TJ Moberg presented the physical education curriculum, and Beckie Jackson and Will Carlson presented the social studies curriculum. Following the presentations, the board approved purchases for new physical education equipment and curriculum and for new elementary and high school social studies curriculum.
The elementary principal reported a successful Read-a-Thon that raised approximately $7,600 and noted multiple upcoming events including Kindergarten Round-Up and an elementary concert. The Drama Club will stage Edgar: A Ghost Story with performances in May; ticket prices were listed in the meeting materials.
Next steps: Approved curriculum purchases will be implemented by the district’s curriculum and operations teams; staff will schedule follow-up as needed to integrate new materials.
