Commissioners spent part of the June 23 meeting on several old‑business items and community updates.
Members reported they found a box of historic‑walk pamphlets in storage and noted distribution at public locations had been inconsistent; commissioners agreed to make the pamphlets more accessible at city venues and library locations.
The commission also raised the Certified Local Government (CLG) certification and the need to confirm the commission’s current standing with state staff. Staff member Joe was reported to be attending a flood‑plain managers conference and had not provided an update; commissioners asked that CLG status and any necessary re‑submission or educational outreach be placed on a future agenda.
Members received an update from the historical society that it had selected asphalt shingles similar to the existing roof and expected roof work to begin soon; the society also has new board appointments and plans some minor exterior repairs (gutters and window sills).
Commissioners also discussed a proposed memorial for Maria Powell at a South Brentwood site (the former tile library lot). They said they will follow up with Andre and city staff to confirm the redevelopment proposal’s size and configuration so the commission can determine an appropriate location and form for any plaque or notation. The meeting record indicates no action was taken beyond agreeing to seek more information.
The commission noted uncertainty about whether a July 14 meeting will be needed and said staff will notify members by email if the meeting is canceled.
