Council receives introductions to Comprehensive Plan updates for transportation and natural resources/climate

On May 28 the City Council was presented with introductory materials that will inform updates to two elements of Burlington’s Comprehensive Plan: the Transportation Element and the Natural Resources & Climate Element.
Community Development Director Brad Johnson described the Transportation Element materials as including active-transportation and safety studies, ADA compliance reviews, and assessments of transportation impact fees that will shape upcoming project priorities and policy options. Johnson said a formal updated Transportation Element will be presented to the Council after review by the Planning Commission.
Johnson also introduced materials for the Natural Resources & Climate Element, including greenhouse gas inventories, climate vulnerability assessments and energy-efficiency evaluations. He said these updates are intended to meet new state planning requirements and that draft policy changes will be provided for Council review and possible future adoption.
The introductions were informational; the minutes do not show formal votes or adoption of policy language at the May 28 meeting. The Planning Commission review and subsequent Council hearings will determine if and when specific amendments are proposed for adoption.
