Council weighs converting pickleball courts to tennis courts; full replacement estimated at $150,000

Administrator Hope Fairchild told the Walker City Council on Aug. 4 that a contractor reviewing original pickleball courts determined they are 20–30 feet too short to convert to a tennis court and that footings four feet deep run under the net area. The contractor estimated full replacement would cost about $150,000.
Fairchild said an alternative is to repaint the current tennis court to make it more prominent at an estimated $15,000. Councilmembers agreed to have the Park Advisory Board review the repainting option and recommended that contractors on the City Park restrooms project review drainage and runoff issues that have caused water and debris accumulation on the courts after heavy rain events.
The council did not authorize immediate capital work on the courts; the Park Advisory Board will report back with recommendations.
