Walker Council hears update on City Park restrooms; mural request referred to advisory board

Hy-Tec Construction said the Walker City Park public restrooms project should be complete this fall; council agreed to send a mural proposal from the Chamber of Commerce to the Park Advisory Board for review of design, maintenance and responsibilities.
The Walker City Council received an update Aug. 4 on the Walker City Park public restrooms construction project from Hy-Tec Construction.
Hy-Tec project manager Andy Pickar told the council the project should be able to be completed this fall. The council noted that the Sourcewell/Gordian contract for the project will be presented at the September council meeting for formal action.
The Leech Lake Area Chamber of Commerce asked the council to consider adding a mural to a restroom exterior wall. Councilmembers agreed the question of artwork, maintenance and long-term responsibilities should be returned to the Park Advisory Board and the Chamber of Commerce for further discussion; the council cited concerns about material finishes that may inhibit paint adhesion and maintenance responsibilities.
No formal contract was executed at the Aug. 4 meeting; staff will present the Sourcewell/Gordian contract for council consideration at the September meeting.
