Paulding County schools honor spring players of the year; multiple students advance to state and college programs

Superintendent Steve Barnett and Dr. Katie Anderson recognized the Paulding County School District’s spring players of the year during the board meeting, calling out individual achievements across multiple sports.
Dr. Katie Anderson read honors for athletes in girls and boys golf, track, soccer, lacrosse, tennis and baseball. Among the recipients: Carly Christ (girls golf, East Paulding High School) who qualified for state and won the county championship; Luke Friend (boys golf, North Paulding High School), highlighted as an individual state champion; Sage Gimmear (girls track, North Paulding High School) who set four school records and qualified for multiple events; and Lawson Sheffield (baseball, North Paulding High School), who was noted for a .390 batting average and school records for doubles and RBIs.
Anderson provided statistics and season highlights for each student, and the group gathered onstage for a photograph with board members after the recognitions. Barnett said the ceremony is ‘‘a highlight of the evening’’ and welcomed students and families to the meeting.
The recognitions covered students from several district high schools and included academic and athletic distinctions; coaches’ notes were read for athletes unable to attend. The board recessed briefly to allow a group photograph before resuming business.
