Mayor Beniamino Mazzulla told the Village of Stone Park Board of Trustees on Sept. 10 that the village has started preliminary talks with Vision Construction Company about building a new police station and associated senior housing.
The mayor said the project is currently estimated at $35 million to $40 million and could take about four to five years to complete. He said agreements with the construction company and designer layouts will be prepared ahead of meetings with Illinois state legislators — identified in the meeting as Senator Harmon and Representative Hernandez — to pursue possible grant funding. The Director of Public Safety will participate in planning to ensure the new police station’s needs are met and mirrored in the current municipal building.
Public Works was instructed to begin clearing dead trees and trimming the site of the village’s new acquisition. The mayor said building plans will be required for state funding applications. He invited trustees to join a short tour of the grounds after the board meeting and asked attendees to submit name suggestions for the development because the previous name, "Casa Italia," is no longer available following the sale.
No funding commitments or formal approvals for the project were recorded at this meeting; the remarks were presented as preliminary planning and direction to staff to prepare layouts and meet with potential funding partners.
