Silver Plume adopts resolution cancelling April election as most seats uncontested

The Silver Plume Board of Trustees adopted Resolution 2026-02 on Feb. 9, cancelling the April 7, 2026 municipal election because the town received six candidates for seven open seats. Town Clerk Chelsea Nihiser presented the resolution and the Board voted to consider the candidates elected without holding the election (motion by Trustee Michael Frey; second by Trustee Randal McDonald).
Mayor Leonard Berenato and Clerk Nihiser said the new board members will be sworn in on April 13, 2026. Because one seat remains unfilled after the uncontested filings, the incoming Board will appoint a trustee to the remaining vacancy at its April meeting. The minutes list nominations and filing types: Berenato, Gitlin and Basham submitted nomination petitions; Michael Frey, Randal McDonald and Cory Chylik submitted affidavits of intent as write-in candidates. The minutes do not specify the vacancy appointment process beyond the incoming Board making an appointment in April.
By adopting the resolution, the Board followed the statutory procedure for cancelling uncontested elections and confirming candidates without a contest; the minutes record that the motion passed with all in favor.
