Mountain-biking group offers help; commission says park not for bike trails

Gil McCormick of the Colorado Mountain Biking Association told the commission that COMBA is working with the U.S. Forest Service on Bard Creek and Virginia Canyon trail projects and that the group would be interested in helping develop mountain-biking trails in Silver Plume Mountain Park.
Special Projects Manager Cindy Neely informed McCormick that the 7:30 trail and the park itself are "not meant to be mountain biking trails or land," and said the commission is not interested in turning the Silver Plume Mountain Park into another Virginia Canyon. Neely noted that mountain biking efforts are currently centralized on the Argentine Central Grade on the opposite side of the valley and said the Town is not pursuing additional trail creation or maintenance there either.
The commission thanked McCormick for attending and for offering assistance; no action was taken to change trail designation or to initiate a trail project in the park.
