A Carlson parent told the Clear Creek School District RE-1 board that an early-childhood (ECE) playground grant appears to fund a competing preschool location and urged trustees not to divert capital from the district’s existing Carlson program.
Katie, speaking during the public-comment period, said she responded to a recent county survey and remains concerned about capital spending priorities. "We just renovated Carlson years ago… My child was in the wonderful… preschool program there," she said, and she questioned spending toward what she described as a "competing preschool program."
Administrators told the board the grant would provide nearly $400,000 to improve early-childhood facilities and that Mountain Trails is the intended tenant partner; they said the partner selection originated in 2022 but that the contract structure does not yet assign the site formally. After discussion trustees moved to accept the ECE playground resolution with a contingency: the board required a written commitment that the district’s broader early-childhood (EC) project will commence before playground construction proceeds. The motion passed.
Board members noted that the district can withhold funds if partner milestones are not met. The condition is intended to keep the grant aligned with district priorities and ensure Carlson’s existing preschool is not disadvantaged by the new site.
