Versailles secures $250,000 OPWC loan for N. West St. Phase II; multiple projects move toward construction

Village administration reported several capital project and grant developments at the June 10 Versailles council meeting.
The Village received formal notice from the Ohio Public Works Commission (OPWC) of a $250,000 0% loan award for the N. West St. Phase II Street Extension Project. The Village Administrator said that Access Engineering Solutions is designing the project and the Village hopes to bid the work later this summer for completion in 2027. The administrator said this OPWC loan is in addition to a $250,000 ODOT Jobs and Commerce grant and a $250,000 award from the Ohio Department of Development through its 629 Funds program for the same project.
The administrator announced preconstruction meetings set for June 16 for the W. Wood St. Area Reconstruction Project and the N. Steffin St. Reconstruction Project. Brenneman Excavating is expected to start on the Wood Street project next week and Tom's Construction is expected to begin Steffin Street work after July 4.
Site construction work will start next week on the McGreevey Road substation project; initial driveway and dirt work are scheduled to precede substation installation. The S. Center Street sanitary sewer improvements project was reported as complete and the Village is preparing to close the project out by the end of June.
The administrator also reported utility and equipment issues: one 1,600 GPM main pump at the Grand Avenue lift station is in for repairs and a spare is in service; a WWTP drain pump requires vendor parts because the installed model is obsolete. Separately, the fiber-optic communication line between the Administration Building and the Water Plant experienced an outage that left only a few functional strands; the administrator said a full replacement will likely be required and the Village is seeking pricing from NKTelco.
Officials said festival preparations for Poultry Days (June 12–14) are underway, with street crews setting barricades, cones and final cleanup.
Council asked for continuing updates as projects move from design to construction.
