Versailles council adopts emergency budget measures, approves surplus sale and other routine actions

Attorney Matt Pierron read Resolution No. 26-27 authorizing the sale of vehicles and equipment not needed for municipal purposes; the council approved the resolution after a motion by Mr. Griesdorn and a second from Mr. Steinbrunner. Pierron also read Ordinance No. 26-33, an amendment to the 2026 annual appropriation ordinance, and Ordinance No. 26-34, authorizing transfers under the amended appropriations. Both ordinances were read, declared emergency measures and approved by council voice vote.
Council also approved Change Order No. 1 to the 2026 Street Paving Program with Tom's Construction, Inc., increasing the contract by $7,863.75 after Mr. Griesdorn moved and Mr. Steinbrunner seconded the motion. In the consent agenda, the council accepted Fire Chief Dustin Johns' recommendations to add Jason Simons and Dalton Johns to the Versailles Fire Department roster as probationary/candidate firefighters.
Mr. Weaver moved and Mr. Pepple seconded a motion authorizing the Fire/EMS chief to apply for an Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG); the council approved the authorization. The council also scheduled a public hearing on the 2026 tax budget for July 8, 2026 at 6:45 p.m. and entered an executive session to discuss personnel matters (entered 7:55 p.m., exited 8:11 p.m.).
