Wilmont maintenance report: FEMA reimbursement approved, tractor lease quote sparks wider search

In the maintenance report at the Nov. 13 Wilmont council meeting, Public Works representative Steve Joens told council FEMA approved reimbursement for emergency flooding and the city is awaiting funds.
Joens reported that lead and copper sampling returned acceptable results and that required letters had been sent to affected residents. He also said a pond valve replacement has been completed and a fence repair vendor will fix damage from an earlier vehicle incident.
On equipment, Joens said dealer C&B quoted about $18,000 for a six‑month lease on a used tractor, a price the city will attempt to lower; he plans to check with Titan Machinery and other vendors for alternatives. Joens also relayed that landowner Brian Loosbrock inquired about water/sewer hookup costs for property north of Joens’s house; council said the landowner would be responsible for actual hookup costs and that crossing Main Street could require county permission because Main Street is county‑owned. Council approved the maintenance report unanimously.
Council members also noted semis traveling on Main Street have been forced to drive in the middle of the road because of low-hanging tree branches; Council Member Josh Balster offered to help trim branches in the spring. Staff will return with updated equipment pricing and procurement options.
