The Sigourney City Council approved several personnel and recruitment measures on Aug. 7.
The Human Resources Committee recommended and the council approved hiring Kadie Conrad as Deputy City Clerk at $22.00 per hour with a $0.50 raise after a 60-day probation. Council member Conrad abstained from the vote due to a potential relationship to the hire; the motion passed (mover McLaughlin, second Lentz).
The Public Safety Committee requested authorization to spend up to $5,000 to advertise open positions for a Police Chief and Police Officers. Council approved the $5,000 advertising cap (motion by Conrad, second Clark). The council also approved final text edits to both the Police Chief and Police Officer advertisements to describe Sigourney as "a progressive community of 2,004 citizens." Council member Schultz voted nay on the ad approvals.
Council members emphasized a proactive approach to recruitment after the Police Chief's resignation and discussed targeted advertising channels. No individual applicants or hiring firm names were discussed during the meeting.
Council adjourned at 7:35 p.m.
