Fire warden urges county fire ban remain in place; towns decide on local fireworks

Fire Warden Thom Bozeman told the Board of County Commissioners on June 16 that although recent moisture has somewhat eased drought classifications, fire danger in Goshen County remains significant and he recommended keeping the county fire ban in place.
Bozeman clarified the county ban does not apply inside incorporated municipalities, which retain local control over fireworks and special event decisions. At the time of his briefing, the scheduled fireworks shows in LaGrange and Fort Laramie were still planned and those towns would be responsible for cancelling or proceeding.
Commissioners agreed with the Fire Warden’s assessment and left the county-wide ban in force while leaving municipal decisions to town officials.
What happens next: the county will maintain the ban and monitor weather and soil moisture forecasts; municipalities will issue their own guidance about planned fireworks displays.
