Steamboat Rock council approves routine business, designates Eldora Herald Ledger as official newspaper

At its Jan. 13 meeting, the Steamboat Rock City Council approved the agenda, minutes, payroll and monthly bills; designated the Eldora Herald Ledger as the city’s official newspaper; and directed the clerk to research reinvestment options for a matured Clay Township vehicle CD.
Mayor David Mull called the Steamboat Rock City Council to order at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 13. The council approved the meeting agenda, minutes, employee hours and the month’s bills during a meeting that lasted about 45 minutes.
Council member Kevin Pieters moved to approve the published agenda; Marc Havens seconded and the motion carried. The council later approved the prior meeting minutes on a motion by Marc Havens, seconded by Pieters. Marc Havens moved to approve the monthly bills, with Kevin Pieters seconding; that motion also passed.
During the bills vote the council flagged a single invoice for follow-up. Council member Travis Hollander moved and Marc Havens seconded a motion directing City Clerk Valeria Kjormoe to request an itemized explanation and a copy of the original invoice; if the clerk determines the invoice is valid, she was instructed to proceed with payment. The council approved that directive.
Under new business, council member Marvin Veld moved to designate the Eldora Herald Ledger as Steamboat Rock’s official newspaper for legal notices and other official publications; Kevin Pieters seconded and the motion passed. The council also addressed a matured Clay Township vehicle certificate of deposit: Pieters moved and Veld seconded a motion directing the clerk to research current interest rates and to take necessary action to reinvest or otherwise manage the funds.
The council listed two items for a future meeting — an alleyway dispute at the property line involving Travis Hollander and Marc Havens, and a review of the city sidewalk code — and adjourned at 7:15 p.m.
