The Village of Pelham Board of Trustees on May 26 adopted an amendment to the village code to prohibit parking at any time on the west side of Ninth Avenue from Lincoln Avenue to Park Place, citing traffic and pedestrian-safety concerns.
Mayor Mullen introduced the measure as part of the board’s non-recurring agenda and public comment included support from resident Wilbur Shugg of 10 Park Place, who said parked vehicles had caused “several near-miss incidents” by limiting visibility at the intersection. Trustee Howell moved the resolution and Trustee Anderson seconded; the board approved the change with Trustee Eldahry recorded absent.
The resolution amends §90-49 (Schedule X: No Parking Any Time) as authorized by §90-15 of the village code to add Ninth Avenue (west side) from Lincoln Avenue to Park Place. Trustees and staff said the change is intended to reduce blocked sightlines and improve safety for pedestrians and motorists entering the intersection.
The action passed at approximately 8:22 PM and will be enforced under the village’s existing traffic and parking regulations. The board did not specify an installation date for new signage during the meeting.
