The Moose Lake Public School District board on March 10 approved a move to a semester schedule for the 2026-27 school year, adopted the district calendar, and reviewed budget changes driven by enrollment and a recent cybersecurity grant.
Board members voted to update the registration guide and credit requirements to align with the new semester schedule; the motion (Anderson/Peterson) passed unanimously. High school leadership said the proposed semester schedule yields about 1,060 instructional hours annually — above the 1,020 hours required — and creates weekly opportunities for extended class time, lab work and flexible WIN reading or advisory periods.
The Business Manager reported FY26 budget adjustments built on a projected ADM of 570 and a current mid-year ADM of 582, with the largest growth in early childhood special education (ECSE), where enrollment rose from a budgeted five to 14 students. Revenue is increased by higher ADM and a cybersecurity grant awarded in October; the district decided not to run a revised budget because the anticipated surplus would not materially change after the listed expense increases.
Specific budget items recorded in the minutes include a $60,000 allocation for a secure-entrance project, $10,000 for a website upgrade and a $20,000 increase to maintenance and supplies. The minutes note that increased expenses will offset some revenue gains; no detailed line-item budget or contract amounts beyond these figures were included in the record.
The board also approved the 2026-27 renewal purchase-for-service agreement with NLSEC and designated district depositories and authorized signatories for banking accounts (First National Bank of Moose Lake, Northwoods Credit Union, PMA Financial Network, Inc., and the MN School District Liquid Asset Fund Plus). All motions passed by unanimous roll call.
The meeting minutes record no substantive public comment on the calendar or budget items. The board set future meetings (April 20 and a May date to be determined) and adjourned at 5:15 p.m.
