Madison County approves $327,888.46 in back pay for sheriff’s deputies

The Madison County Board of Commissioners voted at a special meeting to approve $327,888.46 in back pay for sheriff’s deputies and authorized immediate issuance of the checks.

Donna, identified in the meeting as a representative of the sheriff’s department, requested the payment and said the office could issue checks “after the meeting or tomorrow morning at the latest” once calculations are complete. She told the board that some back payments were old enough to incur a small amount of interest—an estimate of $367.32—and that staff must manually prepare a report for SRS because the county could not upload the report automatically.

A county staff member said the checks “will go out in 15 minutes” and noted finance would follow up on paperwork. Commissioners discussed potential funding sources for the Whitfleet invoice related to the recalculations, which was presented as $68,476 (the speaker said $64,600 was the contract amount and additional technology and administration fees were added). Commissioners referenced the contingency fund, noting about $8,000 previously paid from it, and asked staff to email updated calculations of that fund.
