Suzanne Smithson, the city's Library and Cultural Arts Director, introduced Geeta (Geetana) Nasseri of the Carlsbad Library & Arts Foundation, who described the foundation's endowments and a planned distribution to support library collections, arts programming and public events.
Nasseri said the foundation manages nearly $6 million in endowment funds and that for fiscal year 2026–27 it planned to provide $224,877 in support distributed from three named endowments: the Robert H. Gartner Cultural Endowment Fund (programming in the Ruby G. Schulman Auditorium), the Benson Family Endowment Fund (digital collection and learning center) and Canon endowments for the Canon Art Gallery. She also announced a recent legacy trust gift of $452,805 to support the Canon Art Gallery.
"We are deeply grateful to the family for their generosity," Nasseri said, noting that the donations are invested and that earnings are used to support library and cultural arts services that supplement the city's general fund.
Council and staff invited the foundation's board members forward for a photo following the presentation.
