Commission allows ProcellaCOR to be added to Coes Reservoir treatment plan

The Worcester Conservation Commission on June 22 voted to allow the City of Worcester to add the herbicide ProcellaCOR to the Coes Reservoir treatment plan for milfoil control.
A staff presenter said ProcellaCOR is on the state list of authorized chemicals for lake treatment and that the product has been used previously on Indian Lake and Lake Quinsigamond. Staff cited an Indian Lake treatment in 2021 and said there had been no sign of milfoil in that water body since that application.
Commissioners asked whether the request was to permit future use or to begin immediate treatment; staff said the intention was to authorize use under the treatment plan so managers could apply it where milfoil pockets are confirmed. The commission voted affirmatively to allow the project-change request.
The decision authorizes inclusion of ProcellaCOR in the reservoir’s treatment toolbox; any actual application will be subject to project-level work plans, permits, and applicable notification and safety requirements required by state and local regulators.
