Sigourney pledges $1,000 to support BOOST strategic planning grant application

The Sigourney City Council voted Aug. 21 to provide a letter of support and a $1,000 financial commitment from the Local Option Sales and Services Tax (LOSST) economic development line to the BOOST Strategic Planning Project application.
Council member Iosbaker explained that the BOOST award—if Sigourney is among the four selected applicants—would provide consulting and planning assistance, with the state offering up to $10,000 and requiring a two-to-one local match. That means a $5,000 local match would be required; steering-committee participants have already pledged $1,000 each and requested a $1,000 city contribution to help meet the match.
The BOOST project would fund strategic planning work that could cover a range of community priorities, including the potential development of a community recreation center, work on Memorial Hall, improvements around the square and related planning activities. KCED and a community group will serve as collaborators; KCED is listed in the minutes as willing to spearhead the project and act as primary contact if the council approves.
Council member Lentz moved and Council member Clark seconded approval of the letter and the $1,000 LOSST contribution. The motion passed with unanimous Ayes recorded (Lentz, Schultz, Clark, Conrad, McLaughlin and Iosbaker). Council later tabled forming a standing Strategic Planning Committee until the next meeting so the City can await BOOST award results or consider a narrower, City-focused group if needed.
