County transit to reintroduce fares July 6; Heritage Trail outreach events set May 29–30

Andy Carter, representing Tuolumne County Transit and the Transportation Council, briefed the board on several service updates: two community outreach events for the Tuolumne Heritage Trail are scheduled for Friday, May 29 (Cawthill Park, 4–7 p.m.) and Saturday, May 30 (Eagle Cottage, Columbia State Historic Park, 10 a.m.–1 p.m.), where residents can review maps and meet planners.
Carter also announced that the county will reintroduce transit fares beginning July 6 after several years of pandemic‑era free service supported by temporary relief and grants. He said outreach will include flyers on buses, social media, radio, and partner organizations to make riders aware of new costs and that a Fare Forward donation program is being developed to allow community members to pay fares forward to riders who need assistance.
Carter noted Saturday trolley service has resumed on the route connecting Columbia State Historic Park, the airport and downtown and that pricing/community details will be shared as they are finalized on the transit website. The board thanked transit staff and encouraged ongoing outreach to minimize rider disruption.
