Council awards LP contract to Palisades, approves Event Center service contract and routine claims and permits

The Lake Benton City Council on May 4 approved several routine consent and procurement items, including a propane (LP) supply contract, an Event Center service contract, claims payments and a building permit.
Fuel contract: City staff solicited bids for 15,000 gallons of LP to be delivered to city tanks under a prepaid option. Bids received were Palisades $1.379/gal, Meadowland $1.75/gal and Chandler Coop $1.42/gal. The council approved contracting with Palisades for 15,000 gallons at $1.379 per gallon in a motion by Trustee Scott Christensen, seconded by Trustee Karen Lichtsinn; the motion carried.
Event Center service contract: The council approved a one‑year service contract (June 1, 2026–May 31, 2027) with Danny and Megan Krotzer to market and promote Event Center rentals and maintain a calendar for $250 per month. Trustee Karen Lichtsinn moved approval and Trustee Scott Christensen seconded; motion carried.
Claims and permits: The council reviewed a list of claims presented against the city, including line items such as Ottertail $2,524.89, Lincoln County Treasurer $3,710.00, and SW Sanitation $4,073.14, and authorized payment in a motion by Trustee Scott Christensen, seconded by Trustee Jon Olson. The council also approved a building permit for Kenneth Johansen to add a 10‑foot garage addition at 504 Lakeview Street after staff confirmed setbacks and ordinance compliance; motion by Trustee Karen Lichtsinn, seconded by Trustee Jon Olson.
Administrative scheduling: The 2025 audit by Kinner & Company is complete; the council agreed to meet with the auditor Tuesday, May 12, 2026 at 2:00 PM at the Lake Benton Area Community and Event Center. The SRDC public hearing on FY2027 will be May 14 in Worthington; the Chamber meets May 19.
Next steps: Staff will execute the Palisades procurement contract, finalize the Event Center service agreement and process the approved claims and building permit as routine administrative matters.
