Council advances three ordinances on first reading; wind turbine proposal tabled
Summary
The Lafayette City Council approved first readings for Ordinances 157 (minimum 10-foot lot line setback), 158 (council attendance/salary amendment permitting virtual or in-person attendance), and 159 (subdivision rules) and asked the city engineer to review Ordinance 159; a proposed wind turbine ordinance was tabled pending further investigation.
The Lafayette City Council moved three proposed ordinances forward on their first readings and postponed action on a proposed wind turbine ordinance.
On first reading the council approved Ordinance 157, which would amend the zoning code to set a minimum 10-foot lot-line building setback; the motion was made by Councilor Logan VanDeest and seconded by Councilor Dave Reed and carried on a unanimous voice vote.
The council then approved Ordinance 158 on first reading, an amendment addressing council attendance and salaries that allows attendance in person or virtually (motion by Tom Polich; second by Logan VanDeest). Councilors also advanced Ordinance 159 (subdivision regulations) on first reading (motion by Dave Reed; second by Logan VanDeest) and requested that the city engineer review the draft and provide comments by the next meeting.
Discussion of a separate wind turbine ordinance did not result in action; councilors tabled further consideration pending additional investigation.
All three ordinances were advanced on first reading with unanimous assent. Final adoption, public hearings (if required), and any engineering comments remain pending and were not completed at the meeting.
