Union City sets new meeting schedule, approves 2025 pension obligations and notes grant and demo plans

Union City Borough Council voted on several administrative items at its Aug. 13 meeting, including a change to the regular meeting schedule and approval of pension obligations.

Council agreed to meet on the first and third Monday of each month at 6:30 P.M. from September 2024 through April 2025; the next regular meeting was set for Aug. 27, 2024 and the September meeting moved to Sept. 16 because of Labor Day. The change was discussed and agreed by the council during the meeting.

Borough Manager Cindy Wells presented the 2025 Minimum Municipal Obligation (MMO) figures: $48,029 is the required payment for the non-uniform pension and $0 for the police pension. Councilor Joyce moved to approve the 2024 minimum municipal obligations for the non-uniform and police pensions; Councilor Kerns seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Wells also updated council on capital and community items: the TA Set-Aside sidewalk project is still in progress; Erie County Planning will host a kickoff for park and trail improvements (Erie to Pittsburgh Trail) Friday, Sept. 13, 2024, from 11:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M.; and the Union City Volunteer Fire Department requested use of a backhoe to demolish a shed at 10 Market Street but public works agreed to assist without providing a backhoe.

Council President reported nothing further and department liaisons had no additional reports. The meeting adjourned at 7:06 P.M.; an executive session followed to discuss personnel and contract matters with no action taken.
