Board trims community-support line: $10,000 Raptor Historical Society request removed

County staff reviewed the community-support services line that funds local nonprofits and civic programs and identified a new $10,000 request from the Raptor Historical Society for restoration of the county’s old jail. One board member said funding that project is not feasible under the current deficit, and staff marked the request as cut.
The presenter listed other recipients that currently receive support from the county, including animal damage control, the crisis center and the University of Idaho Extension; staff told the board the only increase among those agencies is a modest $700 bump for the extension. Commissioners said they preferred to leave most existing commitments in place while staff returns with deeper cuts elsewhere to close the remaining gap.
No formal vote was taken on the cuts during the meeting; the presenter noted staff will circulate the proposed reductions to elected officials and return with revised figures before the July 8 meeting.
