The mayor said the Extonet conversations began in late 2024 and stressed the municipality’s limited ability to block such equipment but noted the village can require detailed disclosures. “What we do have the ability to do is force transparency on companies when they’re putting up new equipment,” the mayor said, describing a checklist of disclosure items the company submitted under village code requirements.
The board and staff described the installations as small accessory boxes attached to existing poles. The mayor listed the locations under consideration as Harmon and Young/Cliff Avenue; 2nd Street East/Colonial Avenue; and Palmdale Avenue, and said the project adds a second box near existing boxes at those poles.
Trustees did not report substantive public opposition during the meeting. The mayor framed the board’s role as regulatory — requiring disclosures and legal reviews — rather than being able to prevent equipment that supports emergency services and carrier networks.
Next steps include any follow-up reviews with the village attorney and formal permitting actions required under the Pelham Village Code. No appeal or further public hearing was recorded at the meeting.
