Camp Palm Springs reports strong early enrollment, seeks $40,000 in scholarships

Presenters said the program serves preschool through eighth grade across multiple sites and reported more than 648 campers so far this summer; last year’s combined enrollment was cited as 1,791 campers. Staff noted the volunteer pipeline remains a key asset — 53 volunteers are supporting this year’s sites — and said several former campers have advanced to volunteer and paid staff roles with the department.
Camp staff appealed for community support for a $40,000 scholarship goal to expand access to families who need financial assistance. Staff described volunteers’ training (one week of volunteer instruction followed by two weeks of staff training) and highlighted program activities including swimming, STEM, arts and crafts and field trips.
Camp staff underscored the program’s emphasis on safety and mandated reporting, and thanked partner organizations such as First Tee, One PS Neighborhood and the Palm Springs Swim Center that support programming.
The presenters closed by thanking the commission for continued support and asking commissioners to share information about scholarship fundraising opportunities.
