Superintendent reports progress on goals, cites RIDE data delay and summer program enrollment

Dr. Viveros highlighted student-led work, noting Portsmouth Middle School's video podcast was recognized on Anchored for Life, and pointed to Flag Day ceremonies supported by community donors and a presentation from retired U.S. Navy Capt. Jeff Rashard. She also described a letter from the Boston Celtics recognizing Melville safety officer Mark Viveres for mentoring a student.
The superintendent said she could not share specific evaluation data because RIDE has the survey results under embargo; staff data manager Beth Farley contacted RIDE and officials said release would occur by month'end. "Things are looking really positive," Dr. Viveros said, adding she will distribute the self-evaluation after RIDE releases the embargoed data.
Committee members asked about summer programming, ESY, and fall enrollment. Staff described ESY operations, a partnership with Right At School (which reported about 44 students enrolled in its summer program) and districtwide summer care approaching roughly 80 enrolled students; Alphabest was thanked for a smooth transition in services. The superintendent said kindergarten enrollment for fall was higher than typical at the last check.
Dr. Viveros closed by thanking staff and noting leadership transitions: Dr. Heath's official start date in a new role is July 1; additional contact details will be emailed to the committee.
