The Lake Benton Public School District board unanimously adopted a resolution renewing an expiring referendum revenue authorization and approved a 2025–27 contract with the Lake Benton Education Association during a regular meeting held Oct. 15 in the school library.
Chairperson Schwing called the meeting to order at 6:01 p.m. The board also accepted the district’s annual audit presented by Daryl Kanthak of Meulebroeck, Taubert & Co., PLLP and approved the monthly financial report showing a balance of $111,268.76.
Why it matters: Renewing the referendum revenue authorization preserves a local revenue stream the district uses for general operations; the contract approval establishes the district’s collective-bargaining agreement with its teachers for school years 2025–27. Details of the votes and motions were brief. Board member Hurd moved adoption of the referendum renewal resolution; Osland seconded. A roll-call vote recorded Osland, DeVries, Hurd, Houselog, Suiter and Schwing in favor and none opposed, and the resolution passed. Board member DeVries moved to approve the 2025–27 Lake Benton Education Association contract; Osland seconded and the motion passed (the transcript does not include a roll-call tally for that vote).
The board accepted the audit after a presentation from auditor Daryl Kanthak; Board member Suiter moved approval of the audit report, Osland seconded and the motion passed. The board earlier approved the monthly financials (balance: $111,268.76) on a motion by Board member Steven J. Hurd, seconded by Osland.
Administrative reports included an update from Mr. Hansen noting an Oct. 7 flu clinic, attendance at the Minnesota Elementary Principals Association Law Conference in Mankato, upcoming Parent–Teacher Conferences on Nov. 17 and 24, preschool screening scheduled for Oct. 22, thanks to the Lake Benton Fire Department for Oct. 9 Fire Prevention Week activities, and a joint staff development day on Nov. 3 in Tyler with neighboring schools attending. Mr. Woelber told the board the district expects a full-time custodian opening beginning in June 2026 and that staff are pursuing grant funding to add Automated External Defibrillators for the playground and lower level in addition to the gym unit currently on site.
The meeting adjourned at 6:58 p.m. on a motion by Osland, seconded by Hurd.
