Lake Benton trustees approve transfer to cover food-service shortfall and set preliminary FY2026 levy

The Lake Benton Public School District board voted Sept. 24 to move $19,858.85 from the district General Fund to the Food Service Fund to cover a deficit for fiscal year 2025. Trustee Osland moved the transfer; Trustee Suiter seconded and the motion passed.
Trustees also approved a preliminary maximum levy for fiscal year 2026 of $924,663.32, a 1.67% increase over the previous levy. Trustee Steven J. Hurd made the motion to set the maximum preliminary levy; Trustee Houselog seconded and the motion passed. The levy approval sets the district’s allowable maximum for property-tax levies ahead of the formal levy-setting process later this year.
The board approved the monthly financial report showing $71,171.86 in district accounts on a motion from Trustee Houselog with a second from Trustee Hurd. Trustees additionally designated Tony Schwing and Steven J. Hurd as the district’s authorized bank signatories (motion by Trustee Suiter; second by Trustee Osland).
