District curriculum leadership presented proposed adjustments to the 2026–27 academic calendar to meet state READ Act professional development requirements.
Cari Jo Drewitz, Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, told the board that calendar development follows Board Policy 602, Minnesota statutory requirements and a two‑year review process with the Meet and Confer Committee. To ensure staff complete the Minnesota READ Act training by July 1, 2027, the proposed 2026–27 calendar adds professional development and collaboration days, converts selected student days into staff development days where necessary, and shifts one fall professional development day. The presentation identified the CAREIALL Secondary training program as the vehicle for required training and said dates were chosen to minimize family impact. The district applied a 4‑way equity test when selecting no‑student days and noted potential childcare impacts for families.
Administrators also presented a draft 2027–28 calendar with no changes proposed; the item was informational and will return for board approval at a future meeting.
