City staff told councilors the state award of $10 million for the sanitary district land acquisition is now administered through the Public Facilities Authority and that the city has submitted required documentation to the PFA. The city entered the purchase agreement months ago and has extended it twice while awaiting funding release.
Staff said they submitted a final funding request the day of the meeting and expect a decision in the coming days; if approved, the city has a tentative closing in early November to acquire the land for a regional wastewater facility tied to the north sanitary sewer district.
The attorney noted the funding mechanism has been “a little complicated” and staff continue to coordinate state requirements, subdivision needs and township review. Council asked staff to continue pursuing PFA approval and to keep the council apprised of schedule changes and any fiscal contingencies.
