The Sioux Center City Council on April 20 adopted its fiscal year 2026-27 budget and certified a property tax rate of $11.05000 per $1,000 of assessed value. Finance Director Darryl Ten Pas told the council the rate represents a 1.76% decrease from last year.
The council opened a public hearing on the proposed budget; Mayor Dale Vander Berg called for written and oral comments and, hearing none, closed the hearing. Councilmember Jennifer Vermeer moved to approve RESOLUTION SC-R-12-26, "A RESOLUTION APPROVING ADOPTION OF BUDGET AND CERTIFICATION OF CITY TAXES FOR FISCAL YEAR 2026-2027," which passed on a roll call vote with Aye votes from Cory Gotto, Mark Hulshof, Eric Moerman and Jennifer Vermeer and no Nays.
The adopted budget and tax certification complete the city's annual process for setting property tax levies and authorizing expenditures for the coming fiscal year. The council did not receive public comment during the hearing. The resolution was recorded in the meeting minutes and will be available in the city records.
