Sidney school board notes ISASP gains, accepts resignations and approves new hires

Principals reported multi-year ISASP gains at elementary and secondary levels; the board accepted several resignations and approved new contracts for teachers and staff during the June 12 meeting.
Elementary Principal Shannon Wehling told the board the elementary ISASP scores show "amazing progress" over the last three years, and Secondary Principal Kimberly Payne reported significant growth in junior/senior high ISASP results while also outlining current open positions and advertising efforts.
The board approved several personnel actions. Director Megan Franks moved to accept multiple resignations and approve new contracts; Vice President Justin Travis seconded and the motion carried. Resignations recorded in the minutes include Eli Bales (Physical Education), Liz Tedder (Elementary Cook), Olivia Larsen (4th grade teacher and head coaching positions) and Jessica Athen (High School Guidance Counselor). Contracts were approved for Kyle Wallace (Physical Education), Alyssa Herron (2nd Grade) and Zach Wallace (Physical Education).
Superintendent Michael Brown updated the board on legislation that may affect the district and on summer projects including elementary HVAC work. Maintenance lead Mr. Salinas reported summer projects and a water pressure update at the elementary building. Transportation Supervisor Tim Lemrick reported servicing vehicles ahead of fall and noted the Clean School Bus audit scheduled for June 16. The board also publicly thanked Lemrick on the record for his years of service and wished him well in retirement.
The board celebrated student accomplishments — honor roll listings, state tennis and golf placements, Special Olympics results, and noted congratulations to the Class of 2025. The board set the next regular meeting for July 14, 2025.
