Council tables request to vacate old Township Road M, wants full quorum in December

The Pine Island City Council on Nov. 19 delayed action on a request to vacate Township Road M, a title-cleanup action related to a prior interchange project and the sale of adjacent parcels to the Prairie Island Indian Community.
City staff explained that because the city owns part of the affected right-of-way, Minnesota law requires a four-fifths vote when the city initiates a vacation. With only three of four council members present, the council voted to table Resolution 2449 until December when a larger quorum is expected.
Staff said the vacation would clear title issues discovered during platting after the interchange work and that Prairie Island had been notified. The council closed the public hearing and directed staff to re-notice and bring the item back in December for a full vote.
