The Wayzata board approved several human‑resources and labor items at the June 22 meeting, including recommended changes to unaffiliated salaries and the Wayzata Principals Association tentative agreement, and adopted the district’s recommended 2027–28 school calendar.
HR Director Laura Huffman Hardick presented the unaffiliated recommendation: a 3.4% across‑the‑board increase for unaffiliated handbooks and a 12.75% district health‑insurance contribution increase to match the known premium increase for 2026–27; the package cost was presented as roughly a 5.61% one‑year total package. The board discussed budget impacts and voted to approve the changes.
The principals’ tentative agreement (ratified unanimously by WPA membership) included step compression to boost lower‑step competitiveness, a 3% increase in year one applied to step five along with step adjustments, and a 2.9% increase in year two on all steps; district health contribution increases of 12.75% (year one) and 5% (year two) produced a two‑year total package estimate of about 8.01%. Several board members linked compensation decisions to staffing and retention, and some urged additional attention to class sizes and student supports. The board approved the principals contract by roll call.
The board also approved the recommended 2027–28 calendar (revised option 1): a Monday, Aug. 30, 2027 start, two flex learning/professional days, 184 teacher contract days, 170 K‑5 student contact days, a full two‑week winter break and other scheduling details. Several members expressed concern about flex learning days (whether students complete at‑home work, family impacts and substitute availability) and asked administration to survey parents for future calendar decisions. The calendar was approved on a roll‑call vote.
Administrators said they will continue to evaluate flex‑day practices and survey families and staff as part of ongoing calendar and professional‑learning planning.
