The Shakopee Public School District board approved the district’s fiscal year 2027 budget at its June 22 regular meeting, after a presentation by David, the district’s director of finance and operations.
David told the board the FY27 proposal reflects an 8.5% increase in total revenue year over year and a modest 1.8% increase in total expenditures. He said the district projects “revenues over expenditures of about $6,338,000,” and reported a general‑fund combined fund balance of $39,829,484. He also described timing effects on property tax receipts (booked as deferred revenue) and one‑time curriculum purchases that affected supply and equipment pacing.
The budget presentation included detail on revenue categories: state aid and federal program draws were generally in line with prior years, federal special‑education draws were expected to increase with an additional draw in June, and property‑tax timing caused an above‑100% figure for year‑to‑date receipts. On the expenditure side, David said salaries and benefits remain on pace in the mid‑80% range as of May 31, with summer payroll and benefit entries still to be booked. He noted higher supplies and materials spending this year due to one‑time curriculum purchases.
Board members praised the thoroughness of the materials and moved to approve the FY27 budget as presented. The motion carried.
What comes next: staff will implement the FY27 budget, finalize end‑of‑year journal entries and receivables, and report back on fund reconciliations after June close. The board also authorized related fund balance allocations presented in the packet.
