Dalton council approves routine minutes, retirement-plan amendment, DWCDC lease termination and tennis MOU

Dalton — During its June 22 meeting the Dalton Mayor and Council approved several routine administrative items by voice vote, including minutes and supplemental business, a human-resources amendment with Empower to reduce retirement-plan recordkeeping fees under a three-year commitment, a lease-termination agreement with the Dalton Whitfield Community Development Corporation (DWCDC) effective Aug. 15, 2026, and a memorandum of understanding renewal with the North Georgia Tennis Association.
Staff described the Empower amendment as negotiated to lower administrative costs for participants in the city’s 457(b) and 401(a) plans; the amendment covers a three-year commitment period and, according to staff, does not change the current services provided. The meeting record shows staff and the city attorney reviewed the agreement. Staff presented background on the DWCDC lease termination, noting DWCDC plans to hire the leased employees directly and the city will pay accrued vacation in accordance with policy. The MOU with the North Georgia Tennis Association renews a prior arrangement and will continue until either party requests change.
Council approved all items by voice vote and made schedule announcements: city offices will be closed Friday, July 3, 2026, the council will not meet July 6, and the next meeting is scheduled for July 20, 2026.
