Commission hears beaver-related trail flooding; specialist to deliver options report

At the start of its June 22 meeting the Foxborough Conservation Commission heard an update about beaver dams that are flooding trails behind the community center.
A commission member said John from Beaver Specialists and members of the New England Mountain Bike Association inspected the site and that the situation is "complicated." The specialist explored the dams and will produce a report describing possible actions to alleviate the problem.
Commissioners and participants noted there are no easy fixes: measures that prevent damming in one spot may simply shift beaver activity downstream, and removing beavers can invite new animals to recolonize an attractive wetland. The commission expects a more detailed report with options and trade-offs from the specialist before deciding on follow-up steps.
