The town noted the original lease contains lengthy extension options and that substantive changes to the lease process would likely need to go back to town meeting for approval, per the town’s legal counsel.
Officials said the legal process and any negotiations could take months, and the board may need to hire a consultant with stadium fiscal expertise to quantify the town’s exposure over multiple decades before agreeing to any new arrangement. The board also emphasized it is not negotiating in public at the moment and that residents should not expect a rapid resolution absent a proposal that is financially feasible for the town.
Board members asked staff to continue updates as information becomes available; no formal action was taken on the suit during the meeting.
