Lilydale swears in mayor and councilmember; introduces incoming fire chief and hears police staffing update

Outgoing Mayor John Diehl called the Jan. 13 meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. and City Administrator Mary Tollefson administered the oath of office to Mayor Lyle Hanzal and Councilmember Bill Kleinman.
Retiring Fire Chief Dave Dreelan thanked the city for its support and introduced incoming Fire Chief Dan Johnson, who invited council members to reach out with questions or concerns. The council formally recognized Chief Dreelan and welcomed Chief Johnson.
Captain Wayne Wegener provided a police-department update: two cadets have completed the cadet program and are scheduled to be sworn in as police officers in February, and the department will add one additional officer this year through a grant. Wegener said implementation of the program allowing officers to take patrol vehicles home will take a few months, explaining it requires several weeks to outfit each vehicle.
The swearing-in and staffing updates were approved as part of routine business; no votes were required beyond the agenda approvals recorded earlier in the meeting.
