City staff briefed commissioners about a proposed easement to allow Georgia Power to underground and relocate transformers on a poorly performing circuit that serves the south side of Avondale Estates along Wilshire.
Staff said the Public Service Commission-authorized program targets circuits ranked in the bottom performance quartile; Georgia Power must secure easements from private property owners as well as from the city for easement areas along Wilshire. In exchange for the city's easement the utility will provide transformer placements at two corners shown on the package maps.
Commissioners expressed general support for undergrounding and strengthening the grid while noting mapping and presentation issues (a commissioner pointed out an incorrectly oriented north arrow on an illustrative map). Staff said Georgia Power's work will follow permitting and that the utility must complete broader permitting steps for the larger program. No formal action was taken; staff will proceed with negotiations and return with final easement language if needed.
