State roundabout on Hwy 395 could leave county to chip-seal Sagebrush Road; commissioners warned of costs

Staff said the project team expects there may be leftover bid funds that could be used to chip-seal Sagebrush Road; commissioners were told the county's share could be up to an estimated $80,000 if the state does not fully cover the work. The county would contact property owners along the route and would not bill them for work unless they agreed.
Commissioners discussed timing and budgetary tradeoffs: best-case construction and seal work would occur in late fall but crew availability, asphalt plant schedules and fund rollovers could affect timing. Several commissioners cautioned that the county's pavement budget is limited, and that approving one project could preclude funding other local needs. The work session did not record a formal motion on funding; staff said they would return with a better estimate before placing an item on a formal agenda if needed.
