Mayor: ODNR awards $486,506 for walking-path expansion; Ohio EPA grant also awarded

Mayor Abdella told council on March 23 that the Ohio Department of Natural Resources has awarded the City of Belpre $486,506 from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to expand a walking path, add lighting, and expand the soccer-field path. She also reported a $20,000 Ohio EPA award to assess the city’s water valves.
The mayor said the administration is preparing ordinances connected to a housing technical assistance grant to make building homes easier for prospective investors and that multiple volunteer groups are planning America 250 events, including a community picnic and Revolutionary War grave registration projects. She said she had requested assistance from Representative Ritter’s office for state budget funding to continue park renovation work.
The mayor also reported that the Southeast Solid Waste District heard a Rumpke presentation proposing a transfer center at the 618/339 site; she noted the district is composed of six counties and that the policy committee will vote to approve or deny placement in the area. No county or district decision was recorded in the March 23 minutes.
Mayor Abdella encouraged council to review forthcoming ordinances tied to the housing grant and provided a schedule of upcoming community events including the Belpre Easter Parade (March 28) and a Memorial Day flag-raising and ceremony on May 31.
