Mountain Lake council tables potential land purchase, considers annexing city-owned parcels outside limits

Mayor Mike Nelson called the City of Mountain Lake Council to order at 5:45 p.m. on April 20. The council unanimously approved adding a “Potential Land Purchase” item to the agenda and then approved the agenda and consent agenda as amended.
City Administrator Michael Mueller told the council the city’s first-quarter 2026 revenues and expenditures showed no concerns and that departments are staying on budget. Mueller also noted that the city owns several parcels outside the current city limits and asked whether the council wanted to explore annexing those properties; the council tabled that question for further discussion at a later meeting.
The item added to the agenda, described as a potential land purchase, was discussed but not authorized. The council ultimately tabled the matter; no purchase agreement or further direction was made at the meeting.
Votes at a glance: The council approved the consent agenda by a 5–0 vote. Consent items included payment of bills (Checks #29910–29934; electronic checks 1773E–1801E), payroll checks #69460–69491, approval of minutes from the Lake Commission (Feb. 9), Library Board (March 10), Economic Development Authority (March 16), Utilities Commission (March 26), and the April 6 City Council minutes. The consent agenda also included two resolutions identified in the minutes as Resolution #6-26 (Display State Flag) and Resolution #7-26 (Administration of the Minnesota Wetland Conservation Act); both were approved as part of the consent agenda.
Attendance and next steps: Councilmembers Andrew Ysker, Jeff Jack, Mike Nelson, Bryan Bargen and Darla Kruser were present. Michael Mueller, city administrator, and Police Officer Ben McHenry attended as staff; Doug Regehr was noted as present. The council adjourned at 6:24 p.m. The annexation of city-owned parcels and the potential land purchase are expected to return to a future agenda for further council consideration.
