The Lismore City Council adopted its 2025 preliminary budget on Sept. 10 and set a preliminary levy representing a 39% increase. Clerk Amber Bertrand led the council through a line-by-line budget review. Council members approved a 5% cost-of-living adjustment for clerk Amber Bertrand and maintenance worker Josh; contract rates for Tom and Justin remained unchanged.
Council members acknowledged that the proposed 39% levy increase would still leave the budget roughly $33,000 short of planned spending. Members discussed options and agreed that the city can lower the levy for the final certification in December if needed, but cannot raise it above the preliminary figure. The council approved the preliminary budget via Resolution 24.9.2 (motion by Cliff Altman, seconded by Ryan Schieck).
Amber indicated the final levy decision will be revisited at the December meeting to address the remaining shortfall. The council recorded the budget action as Resolution 24.9.2 adopting the 2025 Preliminary Budget.
