Madelia City Council approves $140,552.83 in payments, fund transfers and Park Days closures

The Madelia City Council, chaired by Cody Eager, unanimously approved its consent agenda on July 8, including a check register that lists payments totaling $140,552.83. The register recorded substantial payments to Madelia Light & Power ($35,620.25) and Madelia Sanitation Inc. ($8,800.02), among other vendors.
The council also approved two interfund transfers intended to support local loans: $47,773.56 from Fund 39 to Fund 46, described in the minutes as unrestricted and available for housing loans, and $19,041.11 from Fund 40 to Fund 45, described as unrestricted and available for business loans. The transfers were moved by Andy Gappa and seconded by Glen Christensen and passed on a unanimous vote.
Council members approved a quote from JDR Technologies to install a mixer on the old water tower for $11,099.05, with total welding and painting costs not to exceed $17,000. The motion to accept the quote was moved by Glen Christensen and seconded by Mark Slater and was recorded as passing unanimously.
The council granted a variance to allow a 10-by-18-foot garden shed to be placed at 113 Gage Ave SE. The motion was made by Phyllis Schickling, seconded by Andy Gappa, and carried on a unanimous vote.
Officials also approved road closures for Park Days, scheduled for July 12–14, 2024, on a motion by Mark Slater with a second from Glen Christensen; the motion passed unanimously.
During Citizen Communications, residents Ryan and Katie Visher asked whether any progress had been made on looking into spraying the city for bugs. The minutes record the question but do not record a response or any council direction or follow-up assignment.
With no further business, the council adjourned by unanimous motion. The minutes were later signed by City Administrator Chris Fischer, and the record notes that video of Madelia City Council meetings is the controlling record and is available for review at Madelia City Hall.
