Madelia council approves water utility bond resolution, park shelter demolition and other routine items

The Madelia City Council on Monday approved a slate of motions that included authorizing action related to GO Water Utility Revenue Bonds and several local contracts for park maintenance.
By unanimous vote the council approved Resolution 2024-16 relating to the issuance of GO Water Utility Revenue Bonds, Series 2024A. Glen Christensen moved the resolution and Andy Gappa seconded; all five council members voted in favor. The resolution text and bond amount were not specified in the meeting minutes.
The council also accepted Resolution 2024-17 to accept donated scoreboards from the Madelia Baseball Association. The motion, moved by Phyllis Schickling and seconded by Mark Slater, passed with four votes in favor and one abstention by Glen Christensen.
The council approved several routine personnel and land-use items. Members voted unanimously to accept Kristi Connell’s resignation from the Madelia Liquor Store and to grant a setback variance for Randy and Shari Thomas at 211 Buck Ave NE (motion by Glen Christensen, seconded by Phyllis Schickling).
Park work in Watona Park was authorized by separate bid approvals. Council approved a $1,810 bid from Jadd Seppmann & Sons to abandon the septic at the tan shelter and a $7,475 bid from Kelly & Sons to demolish that shelter; both motions were moved by Mark Slater and passed unanimously. The council also approved a Madelia Baseball Association sign request for new scoreboards; that motion passed 4–0 with one abstention.
The meeting included review of the check register listing payments to multiple vendors totaling $219,720.00. With no further business the council voted to adjourn.
